South Australia’s government has secretly been planning to move Murray Bridge’s most iconic tourist attraction up the river to Mannum, Murray Bridge News has learned.

A confidential plan leaked to this publication this morning has shed light on the Labor Party’s pre-election promise to build a new home for the bunyip at a cost of $320,000.

The catch?

That new home could be at Mary Ann Reserve at Mannum.

In a heist on par with Melbourne stealing the grand prix, concept images have already been prepared showing Bertha the bunyip at home in a new cave near the Murray Princess.

Asked to comment, a Murray Bridge council spokesperson described the plan as “totally unbelievable”.

However, a statement from the Department of Infrastructure or something confirmed that the bunyip move was “definitely a real thing, yep,” despite having been announced on April 1.

More to come.
