Agribusinesses invited to tap into tourism
Regional Development Australia and the Murray River, Lakes and Coorong Tourism Alliance are joining forces to help primary producers.
Food and wine tourism and the paddock to plate movement are opening up new revenue streams for agricultural businesses – and a new program will help local producers take advantage.
Regional Development Australia and the Murray River, Lakes and Coorong Tourism Alliance have teamed up to offer a $250,000 program to irrigated agri-businesses in the Murraylands.
The program will link primary producers with tourism operators and experts who can explain how to tap into a growing market for agri-tourism.
A series of webinars focusing on South Australian case studies will be followed by consultation sessions with industry leaders.
RDA Murraylands and Riverland chief executive Ben fee described the program as an amazing opportunity for interested businesses.
“By linking leading agritourism experts with our local irrigators, it is hoped that the Agri Food and Tourism Development Program will create new regional food and agritourism offerings, and more profit per drop of water for our irrigators,” he said.
The program will be funded through the federal government’s Murray-Darling Basin Economic Development Program, which aims to help irrigators affected by water recovery associated with the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.
