Mannum and surrounding communities won't have to travel far for veterinary services any longer as a new clinic has opened its doors.
Vet in the Hills officially started consulting in Mannum during March, operating Tuesday and Friday from 9am-5pm.
Clinic owner and veterinarian Zoe Carr says the clinic has received lots of community support and plans to expand and grow in the future.
Dr Carr grew up in the Adelaide Hills on a family property with cattle and sheep, quickly deciding she wanted to be a vet at seven years old.
Her love of being involved in the day-to-day care of animals is where she enjoys herself most.
"The (Mannum) community has been super supportive and I'm really grateful to them," she says.
One of her best childhood memories was visiting the river on family holidays and trying her luck at water sports: "I've always enjoyed being in a small community," she says.
The clinic at 22 Adelaide Road started off with just consultations but is now moving into full surgeries.
The Mannum clinic now offers multiple services, including:
- Consultations
- Health checks
- Vaccinations
- Deworming
- Microchipping
- Nail trimming
- Desexing, lump removals, or other common procedures
"The only thing we can't do right now is dentals, but that will be the plan in the future as we keep building and get more community support," Dr Carr says.
Between the opening of the Mannum clinic and their already established service in Woodside, Dr Carr and her team are kept quite busy.
Despite this, the Mannum clinic will also have the ability to do house calls, arranged prior to the day, for those who can't bring their pet in.
The best part of the job, Dr Carr says, is building new relationships with clients while not only getting to know new animals but them getting to know her.
If you're wondering if she has a favourite animal, it's a firm no: "I love them all," she says.
As pet dental month approaches in August, a friendly reminder is put to the community that the clinic also offers free dental checks for pets.
"If you're worried about your pet's bad breath, give us a call."
