Youth housing project is almost complete – can you help it get over the finish line?
Habitat for Humanity’s Studio Purpose project will provide homes to four young people at risk of homelessness in Murray Bridge.

There’s not much work left to do on a youth housing project in Murray Bridge, but Habitat for Humanity is looking for volunteers to make sure it can get done.
Over the past year, the Studio Purpose project has transformed a former public housing duplex into four units for local young people who would otherwise be at risk of homelessness.
AC Care and other local organisations will help the four tenants rebuild their lives, whether be reuniting with their families or developing the financial independence to find their own homes.
The first of those tenants should be able to move in within months.
In the meantime, labourers with no particular skills are needed to finish off the property: tidying up, gardening, putting up fences and so on.
Habitat for Humanity’s Andrew Hurst thanked the local tradies, schools, clubs, churches and community members who had contributed to the project so far.
“We’ve had plumbers and electricians that have come in and donated their time, local suppliers have donated a lot of materials and the kitchen fit-outs have been donated by four different cabinetmakers,” he said.
“When I talk to any businesses about it, they understand the reason to be involved with the focus on homeless youth.
“It will be really rewarding to see the result of people who really need it having access to a home.”
Volunteer Steve Brown said it had been amazing to see the property take shape.
“We want to get a shelter over the heads of homeless kids, that’s the ultimate thing; but to get all of the businesses in Murray Bridge to come on board and supply so much stuff, free of charge – tradesmen, contractors and others that have just said ‘yep, we’ll do it for you’ – is a big plus,” he said.
“I’m pretty stoked about that.”
