Before the Supercars come to Tailem Bend next week, get a taste for a different class of racing at the Coonalpyn 500 this Sunday.
No, they’re not V8s, sprint cars, rally cars, motorbikes or street legals – this is the South Australian Lawn Mower Racing Association.
Unlike the Meningie leg on Saturday, the Coonalpyn event will be open to the public, with off-track entertainment managed by the local pub.

Saturday
Callington Spur Trail opening ceremony: 10am at Adelaide Road Linear Park, Murray Bridge. Information from SA Recreational Trails and the walking community, opening by Mayor Brenton Lewis, refreshments available.
Mowers at Meningie: From 11am at Meningie. SA Lawn Mower Racing Association event, practice from 11am, racing from 12pm, closed to the public, streamed online at www.facebook.com/SALMRA.
Rockleigh 105 Gravelfest: 12pm Saturday-4pm Sunday at Monarto Sports Complex, Schenscher Road. Three mountain bike races on gravel across one epic weekend, proceeds to Rockleigh CFS Support Group. Register: From $25/10 per event at www.mmievents.com.au.
River Murray Football League second semi-final: 9am-5pm at Johnstone Park, Murray Bridge. Jervois v Imperials (league), Imperials v Jervois (reserves), Mypolonga v Tailem Bend (under 17.5s), Jervois v Mannum (under 15s), Tailem Bend v Jervois (under 13s). Jukebox Through the Ages: 11am (sold out) and 2pm at Murray Bridge Town Hall. A sonic adventure through the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s and beyond with the Workin’ Overtime band. Pre-purchased tickets essential: $20 at events.ticketbooth.com.au.
Miss Fisher and the Crypt of Tears: 5.30pm at Murray Bridge Library. Thursday night movie about Phryne Fisher, who unravels a mystery concerning emeralds, curses and a suspicious disappearance.
