Students at a Murray Bridge private school will get extra support as they strive to reach their potential following the opening of a new facility on Tuesday.

Tyndale Christian School students, staff and dignitaries welcomed the official opening of their new wellbeing centre and learning support centre.

The wellbeing centre team offers multi-disciplinary, proactive care and support of students and their families through collaboration with allied health professionals, medical practitioners, psychologists and a range of community services supports.

Principal Tom Cowell said the new facilities had been several years in the planning and development and had come to fruition thanks to the community, the school and a grant of $1.6 million from the federal government.

“These fantastic facilities are here for you to be the best you can be,” he said.

“As you continue on your journey of learning, they will provide you with the very best opportunities we can provide.”

He also acknowledged that without the support of the federal government, the project may not have been completed.

Senator Marielle Smith formally opened the buildings on behalf of the Prime Minister.

She spoke passionately about the future of the school, her genuine interest in the community and said she had been to the school on four recent occasions to help launch other projects.

“These new facilities will provide school staff, teachers and students at Tyndale Christian School, Murray Bridge with better, more modern spaces in which to work, teach and learn,” she said.

“The Australian government is committed to providing all schools with appropriate funding so that all students ... get the best possible education.

“Our government strongly believes in providing the best possible resources so that local students can realise their potential and develop the skills they need to go on to further study or to find a job.”

She hoped that, in the future, someone in the student body might aspire to be the school principal or the next Senator for South Australia.

A welcome to country was read by year 11 student Anthony and Uncle Russell Milera, and the junior school choir sang the national anthem.

The formal proceedings were followed by a tour of the new centres and a morning tea.
