Tyson Matthews resigns from Murray Bridge council
After almost eight years as a councillor, Mr Matthews will move interstate to pursue a professional opportunity.
A former deputy mayor of Murray Bridge has resigned from his position on the city’s council.
Small business owner Tyson Matthews was elected as a councillor in 2014 and served as deputy to Mayor Brenton Lewis in 2016-17.
However, work opportunities had since taken him out of the district, and will now draw him interstate.
“I remain very proud of the work this council has made to deliver sustainable governance while delivering large capital projects without the need for large rate rises,” he said in a statement.
“In particular, the development of (the) Sturt Reserve and Adelaide Road precincts, as well as the return of Wilden’s Way to the community, have been a source of great pride for me.
“While I have not always agreed with decisions made by this council, I am confident that history will judge our commitment to the betterment of our rural city and its wonderful outlying communities positively.”
His second term in office was due to expire at the upcoming council election.
The vacancy on the council will not need to be filled until the election, which will be decided by a postal vote between October 14 and November 10.
