Two men convicted for threatening woman at Murray Bridge property
The pair took the woman's car to repay a debt owed to one of them by her former partner.
Two men have been convicted for threatening a Murray Bridge woman who refused to allow them to take her car.
Terrance William Webb and Umar Ibrahim were convicted of assault after an incident at the woman’s property on November 1, 2020.
The men were seeking payment for a debt owed by the victim’s former partner to Webb.
Webb and Ibrahim demanded keys to the victim’s car as payment.
Ibrahim threatened to bash the victim if she did not provide the keys, and was allegedly wearing a set of knuckledusters and raised his fist when he “uttered the threat”.
“The victim was unaware of any agreement or arrangement between you and her former partner as to her car being used to settle the debt,” said Judge Paul Muscat.
“As a result of being put in fear from that threat the victim handed over the keys to her car to Ibrahim who in turn passed the keys over to you [Webb],” Judge Muscat said.
When the pair then demanded registration papers for the car and the victim could not source them, she was told to write out a receipt stating that she had sold the car, which she did.
On the day of the hearing, last Tuesday in Adelaide’s District Court, Webb pleaded guilty to one account of assaulting the victim by use of threats.
Ibrahim pleaded guilty to a charge of aggravated assault.
Both men were convicted without further penalty, due to the time they had already spent in custody and home detention leading up to the hearing.
