Tony Pasin promoted in Peter Dutton’s new Coalition team
The federal Member for Barker has been given a portfolio for the first time in his career.
Federal MP Tony Pasin has earned a parliamentary portfolio for the first time in his career in the wake of the Coalition’s election loss.
Mr Pasin will serve as an assistant spokesman for infrastructure and transport under new Opposition Leader Peter Dutton.
As someone who drove more than 100,000 kilometres per year across his huge electorate, Mr Pasin said, he understood the importance of his new role.
“I am particularly conscious of ensuring the newly elected government continues to invest in ... rural, regional and remote infrastructure,” he said.
“Much of our nation’s prosperity relies on building metropolitan congestion-busting infrastructure and connecting rural Australians and their industries to their fellow Australians and the domestic and international markets they rely on.
“I look forward to working closely with Senator the Honourable Bridget McKenzie, shadow minister for infrastructure, transport and regional development, to ensure the government is held to account and delivers the pipeline of infrastructure projects bequeathed to them by the Coalition.”
Mr Pasin was first elected as the Member for Barker in 2013, and re-elected in 2016, 2019 and last month.
His fourth term in office will be his first in opposition.
He never served as a minister or assistant minister while in government, but did serve on various committees, including those concerned with the National Broadband Network, regional Australia and House of Representatives procedure.
Mr Pasin backed Mr Dutton’s unsuccessful tilt at the Liberal leadership in 2018.
