Toni Childs is ready to ‘love up’ her Murray Bridge audience

It’s not every day that an Emmy Award-winning musician comes to Murray Bridge.
But one will this Saturday night.
Toni Childs was originally due to visit in 2019, but COVID-19 turned a short postponement into a much longer one.
The American-Australian artist is best known for her top-five 1991 single I’ve Got to Go Now, and might also be familiar for 1988’s Don’t Walk Away or her more recent Emmy Award winner, Because You’re Beautiful.
Her Retrospective tour will touch on all of them and more before heading into less familiar musical – if not emotional – territory.
“The first hour is all the familiar favourites, it’s like eating dessert first,” she told Murray Bridge News.
“The second half is the new stuff.”
Her upcoming single I Believe in You – debuted on stage, but not yet commercially released – has a powerful, anthemic feel.
“What’s nice about my new music is that it’s energising, it’s positive,” she said.
“Right now there’s a lot of polarisation on the planet … (and) COVID has made everybody nervous.
“It feels good to get going, singing songs again, loving people up - that’s what I love to do.
“We need to believe in ourselves and step up for ourselves and love ourselves up; then we can support others.”
Toni Childs will perform at Murray Bridge Town Hall at 7.30pm this Saturday, September 25.
