Three extraordinary volunteers from Murray Bridge have each been awarded a Premier’s Certificate of Recognition during Volunteer Week.
The certificate is awarded to individuals for their outstanding dedication and commitment to volunteering.
The recipients recognised this year were Bob Eisen, Lynette Thacker, and Graham Buttle.
Mr Eisen has dedicated 60 years to volunteering through maintaining community spaces and mentoring younger volunteers.
Ms Thacker has given her time to the Round House for 21 years, going above and beyond to support various causes.
Mr Buttle dedicates his time to the Community Care program as a driver but also volunteers for Operation Flinders, Legacy and the Department of Correctional Services.
“There’s an element of compassion that we provide as volunteers, and that’s the part I enjoy most,” he said.
Mr Buttle said volunteering for Community Care was not just about driving but providing social contact for those in the program.
He said the award had been totally unexpected.
Mayor Wayne Thorley recognised that volunteers played a vital and valuable role in the provision of services to the community.
“Robert, Lynette, and Graham have embraced the spirit of volunteering and made significant contributions in helping to create the proud, safe and progressive community we all enjoy, and I am profoundly grateful for their service,” he said.
Two hundred volunteers celebrated
In recognition of the annual Volunteer Week theme, “something for everyone”, the Murray Bridge celebrated the contributions of its volunteers through 16 different programs.
Mr Thorley said volunteers were the backbone of the community.
“While volunteers don’t look for praise, we would like to use National Volunteer Week to let all volunteers know they are appreciated,” he said.
“We encourage the community to share their gratitude for our volunteers’ efforts in the community.”
