This weekend, riders from all over Australia will be in Murray Bridge to compete in the 2024 Australian International Pedal Prix.

The biggest human-powered vehicle race in the world is returning to Murray Bridge this Saturday.

Sturt Reserve will start to fill up with thousands of people for this weekend's 24-hour pedal prix event.

More than 170 aerodynamically designed trikes will power around the challenging course, seeking to conquer the 24-hour endurance race.

Teams of all ages and from all over Australia will be participating.

Three local schools โ€“ Murray Bridge High School, Murray Bridge North School and Unity College โ€“ will be part of the competition.

Unity College will have four bikes: Minnie Mouse, Bunyip, Tweety and Sylvester.

Murray Bridge High School and Murray Bridge North School will each have three bikes in.

Vehicle scrutineering will take place on Friday morning, with qualifying and a top 10 shootout in the afternoon.

The main event will will be held from midday Saturday to midday Sunday.

Teams of up to 20 riders each will take turns to cover as many kilometres as they can before being met by the chequered flag 24 hours later.

Around 20,000 people are expected to attend the three-day event.

Mayor Wayne Thorley said it was great to welcome the exciting, international event back to Murray Bridge.

โ€œItโ€™s always great to see visitors and people enjoying our well-loved river and natural landscapes while supporting recreation and tourism experiences like this.

โ€œWe encourage our community to come along and check it out โ€“ itโ€™s always a vibrant and lively atmosphere on the riverbank over the pedal prix weekend.โ€

Gates will open on Friday and Saturday from 6am.

Entry is $20 per attendee for the weekend.
