Motor passenger service
Mr GL Hoad notifies by advertisement in this issue that he has taken over the motor passenger service from Mr HL Brooks, and will leave Murray Bridge for Adelaide on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7am, returning same day at 5pm from Franklin Street corner, opposite the post office, Adelaide.
The fare will be 7/6 single and 14/- return.
Mr Hoad is laying himself out to cater specially for picnic and other parties, particularly cricketers and footballers, in their seasons, and is prepared to make special arrangements at reduced rates for large parties.
Alleged trespass to growing crop
Leonard Frank Porter, of Peake, farmer, for whom Mr Harry, of Messrs Mayo, Murray and Cudmore’s office, appeared, has sued WR Edwards, also of Peake, farmer, who was represented by Mr WR Hunt, for £15 damages in respect of an alleged trespass to his growing crop by horses and a foal, the property of the defendant, and also in respect of a personal trespass by the defendant.
Mr Hunt asked for a non-suit on the grounds that no damage had been proved, and further, that the fence over which the horses had entered the crop was in a bad state of repair, that the plaintiff should have kept the fence in repair and that no personal trespass had been proved.
After argument, the court entered a non-suit against the plaintiff without costs.
The test race
Mr Binney, president of the Murray Bridge Rowing Club, was informed on Tuesday by Mr West, secretary of the SA Rowing Association, that a steamer had been specially chartered to accommodate the passengers by the 10.45am train from Murray Bridge on Saturday.
This means that Murray Bridge people who travel by the train will have the opportunity of witnessing the race.
Meanwhile, Messrs E Horsburgh (Victoria), G Rogers (Western Australia), R Fimney (Tasmania), HE Higgs (South Australia) and PA Gepp (representing the regatta committee) met today and drew positions for the race.
It resulted in Western Australia drawing number one, which is on the Osborne side of the river; South Australia drew number two, Tasmania number three and Victoria number four.
