This week promises a bumper crop of entertainment in Murray Bridge, with the second Country by the River music festival at Sturt Reserve on Saturday night, a new show by ventriloquist David Strassman, as well as several other musical shindigs.

Gates open for Country by the River at 11.30am, and the live music starts at 12.30pm, leading up to the popular Wolfe Brothers’ performance at 8.50pm.

And of course, you can buy drinks and food to accompany your musical pleasure.

Country by the River Music Festival returns to Sturt Reserve with a fantastic line-up of Australia’s best country music artists. The line-up includes the Wolfe Brothers, Travis Collins, Sunny Cowgirls, Jayne Denham, the Pleasures, Christie Lamb, Adam Ludewig, Ella and Sienna and Michal Ward. This family-friendly event is all about celebrating Australian country-styled musicians in a lovely setting. David Strassman in The Chocolate Diet: 7pm or 9.15pm at the Murray Bridge Performing Arts + Function Centre, 13–17 Bridge Street, Murray Bridge. David Strassman’s well-known comedy ventriloquism act has shocked and surprised audiences from New York to London. In Strassman’s newest show, “The Chocolate Diet”, the lovable Ted E. Bare reveals his health quest, and the evil Chuck Wood goes through an identity crisis. This performance is rated MA. Comic soprano Janet Hattam and artist/pianist Nerissa Pearce will perform “art songs”, poems set to music, where the composer paints a picture of what the poet may have imagined. Sunday’s performance will feature songs from composers such as Debussy, Liszt, Benjamin Britten, Irving Berlin and Cole Porter.
