The summer holidays are nearly gone, so be sure to make the most of them this weekend.

Families can enjoy an affordable day out at the Murray River Splash festival, which will continue at Sturt Reserve today, tomorrow and Saturday before winding up on Sunday afternoon.

There will be no less than 18 different attractions across the four days, including a waterslide, sumo suits and workshops about the environment.

Then, next Wednesday, it’ll be Australia Day, celebrated with the usual breakfast and awards ceremony on Murray Bridge’s riverfront, and a brunch and awards at Tailem Bend.

Proceedings will start at 7.45am in the Bridge and 9am at Tailem.

Murray River Splash festival: 10am-3pm at Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge. Glacier wet/dry slide, lawn games, bubble city, learn about our river and environment, take home a Murray-Darling Basin showbag; events may be cancelled due to hot weather.

Mega pre-loved book sale: 10am-2pm in the foyer at Murray Bridge Library. Fill a shopping bag for $5.

Murray River Splash festival: 10am-3pm at Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge. Glacier wet/dry slide, lawn games, come and try rowing at 10am and 11.30am, magic workshop, clown workshop; events may be cancelled due to hot weather. Book to come and try rowing: www.eventbrite.com.au.

Arkhive: 2-6pm at the Welly Hotel. Live music.

Australia Day celebrations: 7.45am at Sturt Reserve, Murray Bridge. Award presentations, citizenship ceremony and speeches, with breakfast served beforehand by local service clubs for a gold coin donation.
