January is about to get even hotter with the Festival State Nationals: the first ever nitro funny car show at the new Dragway at the Bend.

Australia’s leading drag racing teams – including five 11,000-horsepower, 500-kilometre-per-hour, flame-throwing nitro funny cars – are lining up to put on the most epic of shows this Saturday and Sunday.

On the line will be prestigious “Christmas tree” trophies and valuable National Drag Racing Championship points.

Title leader Morice McMillin has only a 22-point lead in first place following his record-setting round two victory, with round one winner Justin Walshe nipping at his heels on 201 points.

Championship co-founder Andy Lopez encouraged racing fans to come and witness a drag racing spectacle.

“You absolutely cannot discount any of these competitors for a moment,” he said.

“What you can do is expect incredible, edge of your seat, flame-throwing, record-breaking action, and we absolutely cannot wait to deliver.”

Shuttle buses will be available from Mannum, Murray Bridge, Tailem Bend and Wellington East.
