Murray Bridge Regional Gallery has come to life for the city’s annual Rotary Art Show.

Among the artists named prize-winners was Susan Brittan, who won the best compassionate depiction of an animal award.

Ms Brittan couldn’t stop smiling as she reflected on her work Brumby - emerging from the ashes, inspired by her big love for animals.

Director Fulvia Mantelli said the annual exhibition was of high value to the gallery.

“It’s good to see new artists coming through, its always diverse … it’s a show that we treasure each year,” she said.

Maz McGann, the prize judge this year, said it was amazing for locals to see the work and a great opportunity for artists to present.

“This is possibly the first time some artists have hung their piece, and I love that it’s possible through the Rotary Art Show; it’s daunting but amazing for emerging artists to have that opportunity,” she said.

Having a community art show was not something that weakened the awards, but rather strengthened it, she said.

“If you put community in front of something you’ll find more heart, soul and a great sense of accomplishment (from artists),” she said.

“It’s not easy picking these awards, and I try to leave my personal tastes at the door, although this can be hard.

“On a different day I could’ve picked something different, there’s no perfect formula to it.”

There were many recognised for their hard work and dedication to the arts.

  • Andrew Hay Memorial Photography award: Bronwyn Howard, Bharat Singh and Jasmin Feneley
  • Jean Sims Art Prize: Daniel Gibbings-Johns, Guiyong Zhu and Carole Bann
  • 3D Category: Craig Freundt, Carol Foster and Rose Walker
