For years, the beautiful riverfront enclave of Sunnyside has been accessible only by a precarious, single-lane dirt road.

Now the Murray Bridge council has a $660,000 plan to improve access to the area – and it wants to know what residents think.

“Sunnyside Road is significantly impacted when it rains, and the residents asked us to address this as a priority through a petition,” infrastructure and environment general manager Thuyen Vi-Alternetti said.

“We’ve taken a detailed look at it with a targeted feasibility study and believe we have found an ideal solution.”

The council would install two passing lanes and a channel to capture rainwater, and would make sure the road’s width and sideways slope were up to scratch.

However, the council does not plan to bituminise the road or increase its width to two lanes.

Doing that would cost up to an extra $780,000.
