Murraylands residents capture spectacular photos of Wednesday’s storms
Despite the noise and the light show, two successive thunderstorms have failed to cause much damage.
Two storms which passed through the Murraylands on Wednesday have not caused much damage, according to the State Emergency Service.
Murray Bridge’s SES brigade was only alerted to two fallen trees: one on Old Swanport Road on Wednesday morning, and another which blocked Generals Corner Road at Jervois during the evening.
It was also alerted about water leaking into the ceiling of the Aminya aged care home at Mannum.
Spokeswoman Leanne Schmidt said the SES had fielded a number of calls from across South Australia early on Wednesday morning.
“Around 3.30 to 4.30am … the SES averaged one call every three minutes seeking assistance (across the state),” she said.
“A short rain burst affected mainly (Adelaide’s) western suburbs.”
Murray Bridge received seven millimetres of rain on Tuesday night – nothing unusual, and well short of the 29mm they got in an hour at Morphettville.
However, 2023 is so far trending to be a little damper than usual.
A total of 116.6mm of rain fell on the city in the first five months of the year, almost 30mm more than the long-term average.
