A sloppy start from Mannum proved costly as they just failed to overhaul Jervois, going down 60-58 after trailing by a total of 27 shots at the break at Jervois.
Kevin Spinks, Rod Harris, Shane Fromm and Neil Morris looked like they had set up a big win against David Kempe, Graham Leathers, Gary Odgers and Todd McDonnell.
Then a six on the 6th end saw them leading 17-1, which extended out to a remarkable 24-4 by the break.
But the change in fortunes could hardly have been more dramatic as the visitors turned the tables, conceding just one shot in the final ten ends while adding 16 shots themselves.
Although never in contention for the two points, the final margin of five shots gave the other rinks some hope.
Graeme Herbert, Jeremy Scannell, Denis Hicks and Graham Schenke also started well with a four on the opening end, and another on the 4th to have the better of Terry McDonnell, Marty March, Tony Gill and Ron Van Tijn.
But five ends in a row after the break to McDonnell had him in front by a shot and the locals getting nervous.
McDonnell held four shots on the final end with Herbert under intense pressure with his final bowl to come.
Herbert nervelessly drew the shot, giving him the win 19-17 and easing the pressure on the final rink which was lagging well behind with three ends still to play.
Tim Hicks, Graham Fromm, Derek Vanderzon and Bruce Smith also started well, but could not break clear of Gavin Pfeiffer, Tom Towns, Stephen Gregory and John McDiamind, with Pfeiffer saving numerous shots and eventually getting his side in front.
Fortunately for the locals they were able to restrict the damage to only singles over the last three ends in losing 16-21, as Mannum fell two shots short overall in a massive second half comeback.
Remarkably, Mannum won 35 ends to Jervois' 28, but paid the price for dropping too many multiples.
Murray Bridge made RSL' push for a finals berth that little bit harder with a 60-48 win with two winning rinks and a tie.
Darren McIntosh, Tony Trewren, Troy Penhall and Paul Smart set up their seven shot win with a strong first half against Jason Sipos, David Thiele, Kerri Bolt and Garry Daniel.
Sipos won seven of the last ten ends, and 11 overall, but dropped too many big scores to threaten.
Helen Lindner, Brian Traeger, Ben Traeger and Andrew meddle dropped a four on the opening end, but quickly rebounded by winning 11 of the next 12 ends to lead 17-6 against Karen Kneebone, David Graham, Allan Wooldridge and Phil Day.
Kneebone won the last four ends to reduce the margin to five shots at the end, but the damage was well and truly done long before then.
Bruce Attrill, Charlie DiSanto, Mike Ferris and Brian Leckie tied 18-18 with Noel Kneebone, Ann-Marie Kuchel, Matt Wynne and David Newell.
The first half was very tight, with the scores locked at eight all at the break.
Kneebone broke clear with a four and a two immediately upon resuming, but just as quickly was in arrears when Attrill responded with a three and five in the next two ends.
The sudden flurry of scores then quickly evaporated as singles were traded over the final six ends, with the final one to Kneebone again locking up the scores.
Tailem Bend surprised with a convincing 61-45 win over Karoonda, at Karoonda.
Still anchored to the bottom it is their second win over the reigning champs this season, along with their two wins over contenders Murray Bridge, but their inability to beat the mid range sides will be their undoing.
Duane Edwards, Michael Thorne, Kylie Slattery and Chris Slattery defeated Ian Symonds, Garry Mason, Malcolm McKenzie and Bill Cornish 21-12 in a result very few would have predicted.
David Hoare, Rob Hales, Con Jones and Stuart Rooke also won by nine shots, 24-15 over Rowan zadow, Len Symonds, Jayden Turner and Gary Zadow.
Josh Porker, Malcolm Waechter, Erin O'Malley and John Wegner avoided the whitewash with a narrow 18-16 win over Travis Schenke, Merv Stevens, Kevin McDonald and Grantley Byrne.

Australian Seniors Tennis Championships
Five local players and one non-playing supporter represented the district at the Australian Seniors Tennis Championships held in Adelaide in early January.
These players represented SA in various age groups, teaming up with other SA players to take on the rest of Australia.
Depending on the availability of players, and the team list, there was the possibility of having to play eight sets of doubles per day, for five days.
Jeanne Weinmann and Kathy Pfeiffer played in the 70+ ladies team, finishing the competition in a commendable 5th place from eight teams in the group.
With this team only having five players, there was plenty of matches keeping these ladies on their toes.
Theo Weinmann and Jack Redden were in the 80+ section, but placed into different teams.
Theo’s team finished 3rd, playing most of the competition with only the minimum four players still standing, while Jack’s team finished in 6th place, with the same drop off of numbers as the matches wore on.
Theo and Jack continued to play for the whole week, gutsing it out to the end.
The amazing Henry Young, still playing regularly aged 101, was a starter in Jacks team, but retired after the first set.
Heather Richards was in the 60+ team with five other ladies from regional areas of the state.
Her team finished in 3rd position, with that event being won by the same WA team that won last year.
Theo continued on with the 85+ singles event held at the end of the teams week.
He won his first round easily 6-0, 6-0, then was defeated in a close match by a World Professional player 5-7, 2-6.
Congratulations to all players for representing the region in a positive and friendly manner, and thanks to Rob Denholm for supporting the 70+ ladies team as driver.
