Lipp wins AFL Grand Final day comp

Recently joined member James Lipp got a taste of the big time with victory in Saturday's MOTORING 24/7 Stableford competition.

On a breezy day and with just the 65 players in the field due to it being AFL grand final day Lipp had his best round yet after only starting his golf career here in June.

39 points saw him celebrate his eighth competiton round in style!

Not much to report by way of brilliant or silly golf out on course with members all immediately bustling off home to watch the big game on tv.

Keith Durham must have played a few good shots as he won the Pro comp with a fabulous 23 point back nine.

Meanwhile Drakes supermarket's Patrick Evans outdid everyone on the par three 11th hole to secure the prestigious Yabby with a brilliant strike off the tee.

Three generations of golfers

Probably the highlight of the day was the grouping of the Edwards clan who all teed off together on Saturday (pictured).

Led by MBGC legend Graham Edwards, now into his 80's, who has held every club position imaginable over the years and with a cupboard full of trophies he still plays great golf off a 20 handicap.

Son Anthony Edwards, a former MBGC groundsman and club champion, has just returned to playing after a ten year break and will briefly enjoy his eight handicap after playing at close to scratch in his heyday.

Hot on both of their heels is teenager Oakley Edwards who began his competition career not many months ago and with handy bloodlines has already almost nabbed grandad on handicap!

Oh......and all three figured in the prizes on Saturday with Graeme and Oakley filling first and second spots in the C grade.

They had 38 points apiece while Anthony picked up a ball with his solid 34 point round.

Beerenberg three range results

The Murray Bridge Rifle Club held its annual "Beerenberg 3-Range Shoot" in challenging conditions, with competitors battling a buffeting northerly wind all afternoon.

The event was contested over three ranges: 300m, 500m, and 1000 yards, with participants firing seven shots at each distance.

Despite the difficult weather, several impressive scores were recorded.

In Target Rifle, Jasamine Irvine emerged victorious with a top score of 95.04, narrowly edging out Robert Paech (94.03) and Andrew Heard (93.05).

Irvine’s score meant she also won the Beerenberg Trophy, decided on handicap.

In F-Class, Mark Nesti topped the F-Open category with a score of 116.04, while Gordon Harrison excelled in F-Standard with 115.05.

Harrison went on to win the overall F-Class Beerenberg Trophy on handicap.

Special mention goes to Paech for achieving a possible 35 at the 500m range in tough conditions.

Thanks also go to Beerenberg for sponsoring this annual event.
