Murray Bridge Rifle Club commences new championship year

A cool and clear winters day with a consistent right wind made for excellent shooting conditions at the Deed Range in Monarto last Saturday as the Murray Bridge Rifle Club commenced its new championship year from a range of 300 metres.

Competition in F-Class was strong where F-Open shooter, Adrian Conlan, was the standout with a double possible, shooting a 60.08 in the first round followed by a 60.05 in the second to claim the top off rifle award by 4 points.

John Cranwell also shot a 60.08 in the first round but struggled in the second with only 55.02.

New club member Ryan Yeates had a great start to the championship year with a 59.07 and a 57.03 for 116.10.

Ian Elston and Mark Nesti also enjoyed the day, scoring 117.06 and 116.08.

Gordon Harrison shooting in F-Standard had a successful day scoring 58.03 in the first round and 59.06 in the second to finish top off-rifle.

But it was Adrian Conlon who finished ahead in the handicap award, despite the almost non-existent handicap of 0.9.

Jasamine Irvine was the lone club TR shooter for the day finishing with a respectable 96.04, including a 49.03 in her first round.

She was joined by visitor, Tim Benger, who scored an 88.05 for the day.

Next week the Championship continues from 500 metres.

Visitors tame locals in golf comp

A few visiting golfers have begun creeping across to the Bridge course lately as things soften up a little in the hills in the middle of winter. and

Ryan Trafford-Walker from Echunga is one of those.

He went home with the spoils from the 3B financial services Stableford competition.

Striking a remarkable 24 point back nine the young visitor returned a brilliant 40 points to tame the 77 strong field.

Even our A graders were outclassed by Echunga's Danial Stevenson who edged out local star Mark Bolton on a countback with his 36 point haul.

The two Roberts, Walters and McCormick, kept some of the prize money local by taking out the B and C grades respectively with their excellent 37 and 39 point tallies.

“Aussie” Bob proudly announced he chipped in for birdie from the bunker on the 17th before showing off on the last hole with another brilliant approach chip.

Affable left handed A grader Jedd Rothe, kept the Yabby winnings local by striking closest on the tough 14th hole while the days winner Ryan Trafford-Walker was never going to lose the pro comp after posting that 24 point back nine.

Big Wednesday competition; eagles nest up for grabs

Any mid week player should be aware that the Wednesday competition eagles nest hasn't gone off for about four months and that over $250 worth of golf balÄşs awaits the lucky winner.

Come along and give it a try before eagle machine Aaron Zrim realises what's going on and sneaks along for a midweek hit.
