The Jervois Bluds have had a good weekend for round six of the RMFL season, winning decisively against Tailem Bend and taking back the Lokan Cup.

And the Southern Mallee Suns retain their place at the top rung of the A-grade ladder with 10 points and 61.36 per cent.

Pottsy’s Putts: Deb Christie wins women’s club championship

Deb Christie ended the winning run of teenager Armani Marsters by defeating her five and four in the 36-hole play-off final on Saturday.

In control for most of the day, Christie avenged her nailbiting defeat to Marsters in last year’s final.

Meanwhile, this Sunday club president Mark Bolton will battle with long-time member Jeff Morgan over 36 holes for the title of 2023 club champion.

Bolton had to work hard to see off the gritty Glenmore Hattam two and one in his semi-final, holing out for birdie from the 17th bunker to finish in style.

Morgan sprang the upset of the day in beating the brilliant reigning champion Aaron Zrim four and two in a stunning display of consistent golf.

Having won the title once before way back in 2010 and tasting defeat twice in finals, Morgan will be keen to chalk up title number two and keep Bolton waiting for another year to be able to claim his first championship.

Bolton has great length off the tee, but Morgan never sees the trees.

Who will win? Flip a coin for me.

In the B-grade final over 36 holes, the rampaging Wayne Duthie takes on Rod Thoman, while in C-grade, the larger-than-life Graham Edwards will slug it out over 18 holes against Deane Pannell.

In the Veterans’ 18-hole play-off, Joe Marcus and Peter Erickson look very evenly matched.

After a strong win over the Coorong Cats in Round 6 of the RMNA 2023 season, the Imps are still on the top of the ladder with 12 points and 63.9%.

Murray Bridge Rifle Club report: Clean sweep for Cranwell

Rain caused two delays last Saturday at the Deed Range in Monarto as Murray Bridge Rifle Club members competed in the 30th stage of the club championship from 1000 yards.

The winds were from the right and caused some consternation at certain points in the afternoon, particularly just before the second front came through.

But making the most of the situation on the day was John Cranwell who, following a less than convincing start, was still able to lead the small but competitive F-Class field.

John won the F-Open “snipers” award for best sighters with a score of 15.00, the F-Open top off-rifle award with a total of 115.08, including a possible in the second round and the F-Class handicap award with a nine-point gap to second place.

Somewhat unusually, John also won the F-Class magpie award, shooting a single three in his two rounds.

Gordon Harrison topped the table in F-Standard from Ian Taylor, but the pair had to be split by a count-out, having finished on exactly the same score and centres with 105.02 each.

In the end, “Harro” finished stronger, scoring a super centre on his final shot.

There were five TR shooters on the day, with the early lead going to Andrew Heard with a 49.01 in the first round, narrowly ahead of Greg Traeger on 48.04 and Robert Paech and Daniel Irvine each on 47.

The second round saw Robert Paech excel, shooting a 49.02 of his own to give him a narrow victory ahead of Greg Traeger 96.05 to 95.05.

Greg, however, did enough to claim the handicap award for TR, by the narrow margin of 0.6 from daughter Jasamine, who also claimed the TR magpie award with four birds.

Next week, the club hosts shooters from Mount Barker in the third round of the DRA Championship from 700 and 800 metres.
