Andrew Heard wins gold at World Police and Fire Games
Murray Bridge resident, Metropolitan Fire Service officer and Murray Bridge Rifle Club member Andrew Heard has just competed in rifle shooting at the World Police and Fire Games in Winnipeg, Canada.
He finished the games with two gold medals for his individual shoots and two silver medals as a member of a team.
This year Heard competed in the masters division, which is the second highest level.
The competition is shot over two days.
Day one was over 300 metres, where they shot 20 rounds three times.
Day two was 15 shots at 400m, 15 shots at 500m and 15 shots at 600m.
Heard and his wife, Bronwyn, will now be able to take it easy and enjoy the sights before trekking home again.
Makayla Stimpson becomes RMFL’s first female A grade umpire
Makayla Stimpson has become the first female River Murray Football League panel umpire to umpire an A grade match.
She took the field for last Saturday’s match between Tailem Bend and the Coorong Cats.
Makayla is only 17, started umpiring in 2022 and still plays netball for Mypolonga each Saturday.

- Mallee best: Ben Pomery, Michael Leonard, Shane Paech, Riley Bowles, Ryan Morris, Harry Snodgrass.
Coorong 9.11 (65) lost to Jervois 11.2 (68)
- Coorong best: Alexander Stidiford, Patrick Barrett, Jack Holliday, Albert Dunstan, Henry Turner.
- Jervois best: Joshua Scott, Zane Barry, Taite Silverlock, James Tzaferis, Peter Zarantonello.
Ramblers 2.3 (15) lost to Southern Mallee 22.14 (146)
- Ramblers best: Kye Roberts, Jarrad Weyland, Darcy Bald, Nathan Fullgrabe, Aaron Pratt.
- Southern Mallee best: Thomas Keough, Josh Smithson, Ben Moroney, Jarryd Brown, Daniel Moroney.
Mannum 6.7 (43) lost to Imperials 15.7 (97)

Trio honoured at Murray Bridge Rifle Club presentation
Murray Bridge Rifle Club members have gathered to celebrate the 2022-23 championship year at their annual presentation luncheon.
This year’s championship winners were Robert Paech in target rifle, David McDonald in F-open and Gordon “Harro” Harrison in F-standard.
Harrison also won the F-class yearly handicap, while in TR the Excell Shield for yearly handicap winner went to Greg Traeger.

Murray Bridge’s Sophie Mitchell joins Racing SA Apprentice Academy
A Murray Bridge jockey is among four new faces who have been welcomed to the Racing SA Apprentice Academy.
Sophie Mitchell started as a casual stablehand, working with local trainers Karen Byrnes and Kylie Huxtable, before spending time with the Michael Hickmott stable.
She spent a year working for the Tony and Calvin McEvoy stable as a track rider and will be indentured to Murray Bridge trainer Kristi Evans.

Mypolonga defeat Mallee Storm in River Murray netball
This was a highly contested game, where both sides showed fierce determination and skill.
Strong defensive pressure from both sides meant there were lots of turnovers and the attackers had to work hard for every ball.
In the second quarter there was an increase in scoring from both sides.
