Murray Bridge’s Alex Wilson has won a Commonwealth Games bronze medal in basketball.

She and the other members of Australia’s women’s three-on-three team defeated New Zealand 15-13 late on Tuesday night, South Australian time.

Wilson scored a single point from a free throw and took four defensive rebounds in the match.

The Aussie squad had rolled undefeated through round-robin matches against Scotland, Kenya and Sri Lanka.

However, they lost to England 21-15 in a semi-final.

In a memorable moment, Wilson and her teammates flew a Ngarrindjeri flag after their first win at the games in recognition of her cultural heritage.

Andrew Heard shoots perfect round at rifle club

A cold and overcast, but thankfully dry, day has greeted shooters at the Deed Range at Monarto who gathered to contest the third stage of the Murray Bridge Rifle Club championship from a distance of 500 metres.

The wind, while present, was a fairly consistent breeze from the left that many found the measure of quickly, producing some good scores on Saturday.

Nowhere was this more apparent in the very thin target rifle field of two shooters, Andrew Heard and Greg Traeger, who only dropped a single point between them.

Cycling development camp is coming to Mypo

The Murraylands Cycling Club will join forces with Auscycling SA to help run the second South Australian Junior Road Development Camp on Saturday, August 13 at the Mypolonga Institute.

With two highly credentialed coaches in Josh Harrison and Caitlin Ward, it’s bound to be a rewarding experience for the juniors taking part.

Harrison is a professional road and track cyclist, has featured in the Australian endurance squad and has many medals to his name, including five national titles, World Cup gold and Junior World Championship gold.

Ward is a former Australian Institute of Sport athlete, member of the Australian cycling team, SASI and VIS; she has multiple international golds, multiple junior world medals to her name and is a seven-time Australian national champion and now a dual gold medallist in the para-cycling as pilot for Jess Gallagher at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

This camp will give opportunity to those that would like to push their limits or just feel like they need help in all aspects of road racing.

Throughout the camp, riders will learn the finer details about road racing that they will be able to use across all aspects of riding on the road.

The camp will focus on skills including riding in a bunch, rolling turns, attacking, reading the weather and cornering.

All riders from under-11 to under-17 with a lifestyle membership – they must be a very confident road rider – or full race licence are eligible.
