Alex Bolt advances to final rounds at Wimbledon qualifying
A Murray Bridge local has advanced to the final round in the Wimbledon 2024 men’s qualifying singles competition.
Alex Bolt, who was only elevated into the draw 10 minutes before his first-round match two days ago, is now one win away from completing a successful qualifying campaign.
Continuing to make the most of his alternate spot, Bolt scored a commanding 6-1 6-4 victory today against German Rudolf Molleker.
The world No.234 tallied 31 winners, including 11 aces, in the swift 60-minute encounter.
“I lost to him in Canberra (in January), so I knew it was going to be tough,” Bolt said.
This effort propels Bolt into the final round of a Grand Slam qualifying draw for the first time since the US Open in 2018.

Final round of the 600-metre championships
Eight shooters have braved the cold conditions to compete in the final round of the Murray Bridge Rifle Club’s annual championship from 600 metres.
Andrew Heard led the way in Target Rifle, narrowly defeating Robert Paech by a point, 99.09 to 98.12.
Heard was helped by a possible 50.04 in his second round.
In F-Class, several high scores were shot, including a possible 60.04 from Ian Elston in Open.
A 59.04 from Gordon Harrison in Standard, and 58s from Nicole Edwards and Mark Nesti in FTR and Sporting.
Elston also shot a 58 in his first round giving him the off-rifle win with 118.09, four points ahead of the field.
However, Edwards final score of 114.09 was enough to overtake Elston in the handicap 130.1 to 128.9.
The club has a spare next week before it meets to compete in the Cranwell-15 Trophy on July 6 when it also holds its AGM.
