Police have banned a Murray Bridge teenager from driving after he was allegedly clocked doing 204 kilometres per hour on the Princes Highway last Thursday.
Officers allegedly detected the 17-year-old’s Toyota sedan doing almost double the 110km/h speed limit at Monteith just before 1am on April 2.
They suspended the driver’s licence for 12 months on the spot, impounded his car for 28 days and reported him for speeding and breaching the conditions of his provisional licence.
He will face those charges in court.
Also caught out on the Murraylands’ roads this week were:
- A 39-year-old Warradale man who allegedly returned a blood alcohol level of 0.91 after being breath tested on the Princes Highway at Tailem Bend at 11am on Good Friday; he was reported for drink driving
- A 36-year-old Murray Bridge man who allegedly refused a breath test around 7pm on Easter Monday; he lost his licence for 12 months on the spot and had his car impounded for 28 days
Another 12 drivers across the Murray Mallee region were reported for drug driving over the Easter weekend; each lost their licence for three months on the spot and may face further penalties after their samples are analysed.

Golf club burglar caught red-handed
Meanwhile, police have arrested a man who was allegedly caught in the act of breaking into Murray Bridge Golf Club early in the morning on Good Friday.
Officers went to the club around 2.45am after an alarm went off.
They found that someone had accessed the bar by removing roof tiles and climbing down, and then – after studying CCTV footage – realised that the suspect was still at the scene.
They allegedly discovered, and arrested, a 30-year-old local man hiding in the ceiling.
Police expected to charge him with being unlawfully on premises.
What a shocking idea
Finally, police are searching for the culprit or culprits who damaged several power lines at Tailem Bend last Wednesday.
Several lines were pulled down at the railway yard west of Webb Street sometime between midnight and 2am.
Police believe someone did the damage with a car and a tow strap.
