As the calendar turns over into 2025 and you start making plans for the next year, here’s something to add to your list: get that solar power system you’ve been thinking about.
As well as being whizzes with anything electrical, the team at Ahrns Electrical are qualified solar panel installers who can help you get on the fast track to saving on your power bills.
Electrician Jason Allen reckons there are at least three reasons you should think about solar for your home or workplace.
Solar is an investment
If you haven’t yet installed solar panels at home, cost is probably one reason – but think about what you’re getting for your money, Jason suggests.
Like stocks, savings accounts or quirky collectables, if you’re into that sort of thing, a solar power system is an investment.
“You pay the up-front amount, then you slowly recover your costs,” Jason says.
“Once you break even, it’s making you money.”
The team at Ahrns have a software tool which can estimate how much money, too.
It takes the location of your house, the position and angle of the panels you’re thinking about installing, calculates how much sunlight you can expect throughout the year, and works out from that how long the system might take to pay for itself.
That’s without taking into account the extra value the solar system will add to your property.

Solar gives you independence
Matched with a household battery system, solar panels can give you energy independence.
You, too can keep your lights on even during a blackout, and guarantee that your air conditioner will stay powered up even on the hottest summer day.
The cost of electricity will continue to rise, but who cares if you can make your own at home?
“For people who grow their own food, if the cost of living goes up and groceries become more expensive, it doesn’t impact you,” Jason says.
“You’re self-sufficient, and less reliant on things that can change.
“It’s the same when you generate your own electricity.”
Solar power means one less thing to worry about.

Solar is reliable
It might sound strange to say about a relatively recent technology, but: solar is a known quantity.
Solar panels don’t have any moving parts, so – unlike a diesel generator, for example – there is nothing mechanical that can go wrong with them.
Most solar systems have a warranty for at least 10 years, and often as long as 25 … but that doesn’t mean they’ll suddenly stop working after that, either.
Dishwashers and fridges might have a 12-month or two-year warranty, but you’d expect them to last several times longer, wouldn’t you?
It’s the same with solar panels, Jason says.
Let’s remember, too: there are plenty of uncertainties in this life, but the sun is not one of them.
It was there before we were born, will be there after we’re gone, and will spend every day in between shining down on those panels of yours.
