Hundreds have lined the streets of Murray Bridge and nearby towns to watch the start of stage four of the 2024 Tour Down Under.
The eyes of the world fell on Bridge Street on Friday morning as some of the world’s best men’s cyclists lined up, ready to go.
Crowd members rattled bells and jostled for smartphone photos in the minutes before the start.
Mexican rider Isaac Del Toro Romero lined up in the ochre jersey as the race leader after the first three stages, while Sam Welsford wore the blue sprint jersey and Luke Burns the green king of the mountain jersey either side of him.
At 11.10am on the dot, riders hoiked off the line and headed east before returning across the bridge 10 minutes later, racing down the main drag and heading on to Jervois and Wellington.
There were Devonshire teas and live music at the Round House, a sausage sizzle at the RSL, and no shortage of visitors from around Australia and the world.
Then, less than an hour later, the main street emptied again as the tour rolled on.
Stage four was expected to finish at Port Elliot, 136 kilometres away, by 3pm.
