Around 180 people have gathered at the Bridges Event Centre to celebrate the centenary of Catholic education in Murray Bridge.

St Joseph’s School was set up 100 years ago this month under the auspices of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, the order of nuns founded by South Australia’s own St Mary MacKillop.

Much has changed since then, with student numbers having grown, the old brown uniforms having been discarded and lay leaders having taken over from the sisters.

But the bonds between the school and those who have learned or taught there, and their families, remain strong for a lifetime, as Friday night’s gala event showed.
