The Murray Bridge council has put on a Christmas lunch to thank its volunteers for their service.
Murray Bridge CEO Heather Barclay and mayor Wayne Thorley both expressed their pride in the work of the council volunteers.
“The local government has such a big responsibility in community, and local government organisations can’t do it alone,” Ms Barclay said on Wednesday.
“The people that live in the community want to be involved and have so much to give.
“We’ve got 225 volunteers (who contributed) 17,000 hours this last year, and the value for that is three quarters of a million dollars to our community.
“The passion in the room is just beautiful – I know it makes the mayor proud, and it makes me proud that we’ve got such a great community that cares.”
