An Adelaide trainer has won Murray Bridge’s most prestigious horse racing trophy.

The $65,000 Gold Cup was won on Saturday by Cartoon Graveyard, trained by Will Clarken, who closed his local training base earlier this year.

Trophies were presented to a representative of his stable, Charlotte Sorby; Phil McCooke, representing the gelding’s owners; and jockey Kayla Crowther.

The day’s other feature race, the Moorundi Classic, went to Wellington’s Michael Hickmott and Inhabit, with Todd Pannell aboard.

David Aldridge was the only other local winning trainer on the day.

In any case, close to 1000 people gathered trackside in their finest to enjoy a day of spectating, socialising, food and drink.
