School student Hunter helps the hungry
A Mypolonga boy who feels sad about people who go hungry has found a way to help – by leading a Foodbank food drive at his primary school.

Hunter, a year 1 student at Mypolonga Primary, wanted to do something to help people who are hungry and homeless – so he’s inspired a food drive.
After reading a book at school called The Bilbies of Bliss, Hunter felt sorry for one of the bilbies in the book.
“There’s a bilby that always feels hungry, and it’s late for dinner – they lock him out,” Hunter said.
“I felt sad because I didn’t want it to feel hungry.”
Hunter thought more about the hungry bilby and spoke to his parents about hungry and homeless people and what he could do to help them.
“I know there’s real people in the world that don’t have much food and money,” he said.
“I want them to be happy.”
Hunter’s parents looked on the internet for ways to help the hungry and decided on a food drive.
It soon became a reality.
People have already donated food and money for Hunter’s food drive, and all donations will go to Foodbank.
School principal Sunyl Vogt said to Hunter, “I was super-impressed with the empathy you showed.”
Donations of food and money for Hunter’s food drive can be taken to Mypolonga Primary School by November 22.
Quarter of a million South Australian households have struggled to put food on the table in the past year, according to Foodbank, mainly because of the high cost of living or rent increases.
