Records have been broken at the grain silos at Monarto South and Tailem Bend in recent weeks as South Australia’s harvest continues to come up big.

Viterra’s Monarto South site set a new record for total grain received during a single harvest on Sunday.

The previous record had been set in 2016-17, when the state’s farmers brought in their biggest harvest ever.

Regional operations manager Jo Klitscher credited a recent upgrade to the Monarto South silos which allowed staff to unload grain more quickly, and continue to receive grain deliveries at the same time.

“Employees at (the) site are focused on safety, quick turnaround times and out-turning grain to make room for more deliveries,” she said.

Viterra’s Tailem Bend site broke its daily receival record on November 30, when 17,475 tonnes of grain was delivered in a single day.

Ms Klitcher congratulated staff there for managing their busiest day ever efficiently and safely.

Monarto South and Tailem Bend are the two delivery sites closest to Murray Bridge for Viterra, the grain handling company which receives a significant percentage of South Australia’s harvest each year.

It is unclear whether the record-breaking run is related to the company’s closure of its Murray Bridge silos to receivals for this year’s harvest.
