RAA plans EV charging station at Tailem Bend
A new electric vehicle charging point at Dickson Reserve would form part of the statewide RAA Charge network.
The RAA plans to install two electric vehicle charging points at Tailem Bend as it rolls out a network of stations across South Australia.
The new EV charging station would be at the top of the steps leading down to Dickson Reserve, just off the Princes Highway.
Like the other stations in the RAA Charge network, motorists would pay 59 cents per kilowatt hour for a rapid charge, or 68c during an evening peak period.
One of the two charging points would be disability-friendly.
The Coorong council would grant the RAA a 20-year lease over the land on which the station would be built.
However, members of the public will get a chance to offer their feedback before the plan can go ahead – scroll down to find out how.
Coorong Mayor Paul Simmons said he looked forward to having the facility at Tailem Bend, as well as others at Meningie and Coonalpyn.
“EVs are rapidly becoming more popular and affordable for Australian families,” he said.
“We welcome new RAA EV charging sites in three of our towns, and their potential to encourage visitors to stop, stay and explore a little longer.”
When it is completed this year, the RAA Charge network will consist of 140 charging stations around the state, built with a $12 million state government grant.
An RAA Charge station at Monarto Safari Park opened last year.
Until now, the only public EV charging station at Tailem Bend has been the Evie Networks station at the Tasco Ampol roadhouse, which opened in 2020 and currently costs 73c/kWh.
