Quilters’ donations will warm hearts this Christmas
Members of Murray Bridge Patches and Quilters have donated mats and quilts to Meals on Wheels and the Lerwin Nursing Home.

More than 100 elderly locals will enjoy a more colourful Christmas thanks to the industrious efforts of Murray Bridge Patches and Quilters.
Members of the craft group did the rounds on Friday, donating 98 textile placemats to the local branch of Meals on Wheels and many more mats and quilts to the Lerwin Nursing Home.
They were to be distributed to meal recipients and residents of the aged care facility in time for this weekend.
Quilting group member Val Towill hoped the gifts would brighten people’s days.
“We like to put back into the community,” she said.
“A lot of fabric comes to us as donations, so we decided to make something up from all of them.
“Some of the girls said we hadn’t got much Christmas fabric, but I said ‘just dig a bit deeper in the cupboard’.”
Sure enough, out came the reds and greens, holly and reindeer.
Meals on Wheels’ Mary Rowley was delighted that local groups came together to help each other out, just like the Murray Bridge Lions did when they donated some Christmas cakes for meals recipients recently.
“It makes life that little bit better for everybody,” Ms Rowley said.
For some clients, the cake and mats might be the only Christmas presents they got, fellow volunteer Maureen Klau said.
Bridge Patches and Quilters normally meet between 9.30am and 3pm at 17 Jose Street, Murray Bridge.
