If you see smoke west of Murray Bridge on Tuesday, fear not.

The Department for Environment and Water will be conducting a prescribed burn-off in the Monarto Woodlands Conservation Park from 10am-7pm, weather permitting.

The area to be burned is on the north side of the South Eastern Freeway at Monarto South, just west of Pope Road and near the freeway rest area.

A nearby area was burned just over a week ago.

DEW warned that smoke may be visible in the area during the day, but that National Parks and Wildlife Service crews would remain on site until everything was safe.

The department uses prescribed burns to reduce fuel load in vegetated areas, reducing the risk of a significant fire over the summer.

An area of seven hectares will be burnt in this case.
