An upcoming event called The Power of Her will bring together women in sport, empower them and celebrate their talent and skills.

The Rural City of Murray Bridge will host the day at the Bridges Event Centre on October 25 from 9am-2pm.

It will bring together influential voices and change-makers for a day of connection, learning and growth.

State Recreation, Sport and Racing Minister Katrine Hildyard will open the event, with Jaylee Cooper from Catherine House serving as the MC.

The day's lineup of dynamic guest speakers and leaders in their fields will include:

  • Keynote speaker Amber Halliday
  • Julie Anderson, women’s sport lead at Sport SA
  • The Embrace Collective’s Kirsty Mead
  • West Adelaide Football Club’s Conny Wilson, Emma Grigson and Alison Surjan
  • TABOO Period Products co-founder and managing director Eloise Hall

Ms Hildyard said empowering women to participate in sport and be celebrated for their strength and skill was powerful – "it can shift attitudes about women and the roles they can play on and off the field".

A past Power of Her event in Adelaide had been attended by thousands and inspired women to know that if they wanted to lead, play, commentate, officiate or administer sport, they could, she said.

"Empowering women and creating opportunities for them to lead in whichever playing field they choose requires collective effort," she said.

The Power of Her Murraylands event will be the first to be hosted in a regional area.

Murray Bridge Mayor Wayne Thorley said it would be a great opportunity to support local women in sport.

“Along with my fellow mayors, we are pleased to continue to work with one another and government for the benefit of communities and women in sport across our region,” he said.

"Sport plays an important role in growing, thriving and strong communities.

"This event will bring together and nurture more connections across our region."

There will also be a chance to win a Intersport door prize valued at $500, or a $1600 MJN scholarship for your local sporting club.

Tickets are available at $25 until September 30, and at the full price of $35 after that.

Five dollars from every ticket sold will be donated to Catherine House, aiding women experiencing homelessness.
