Police seize drugs and gun at Brinkley
Plus two men are arrested over a Jervois break-in and officers penalise a handful of motorists.
Police have charged a Brinkley man with drug and firearms offences after visiting his property on Australia Day.
Officers went to see the 35-year-old man around 9pm after being tipped off about an allegedly unregistered gun in his possession.
They searched his property and confiscated a .22 rifle, ammunition and three cannabis plants.
The man was denied bail and faced a preliminary hearing at Murray Bridge Magistrates Court on Tuesday, on charges of possessing the firearm and insecure ammo, cultivating cannabis and possessing prescribed drug equipment.
Pair arrested over Jervois break-in
Meanwhile, police have made two arrests over a break-in at Jervois last week.
CCTV footage showed two men allegedly breaking into the town’s bowling club and stealing various items in the early hours of January 19.
Detectives identified a pair of suspects and arrested two Murray Bridge men, aged 25 and 24, on Monday.
Officers also seized some of the stolen goods, as well as a vehicle believed to have been used in the theft, which they sent off to be forensically examined.
Both men were charged with serious criminal trespassing and theft, and were granted bail ahead of a court appearance in Murray Bridge on March 17.
Two caught drink driving
Finally, a handful of drivers have been penalised on local roads over the weekend:
- A34-year-old Queensland manallegedly recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.093 while behind the wheel of a ute on Swanport Road, Murray Bridge in the early hours of Saturday morning
- A 33-year-old Murray Bridge man was reported for allegedly driving while disqualified on Pugh Avenue just before 12pm on Saturday
- Eight drivers were allegedly caught drug driving across the Murray Mallee region
