Departure of Mr Sherman

Mr C.H. Sherman, who has held the position of manager of the Murray Bridge branch of the Commercial Bank for 18 years, will shortly be leaving the Bridge, as he has been transferred to the Unley city branch.

Mr Sherman, during his residence at Murray Bridge, associated himself with every progressive movement in the town, and took an active part in many of the sports bodies and social affairs of the town.

He was the first secretary of the several times defunct and revived progress association, which in the early days accomplished much good for the town, and which could with advantage be revived again at the present juncture.

His successor is Mr F.A. Phillips, of Heathcote, Victoria.

Karoonda Football Club

The annual meeting of the above club was held at the institute on Monday last.

They were premiers in the association, and holders of the Challenge Shield, having been beaten only once during the season.

Sandercock was top goal kicker with 21 goals to his credit.

The medal for the most improved player was won by A. Kalms, while the one given for the most unselfish player in the association was awarded to the Karoonda captain, L.R. Parker, who, on a vote by players of all the clubs in the association, gained more votes than all the other candidates together.

It was decided to adopt new colours, viz black with vertical white stripes, the uniform to be supplied to players at cost price.

A pleasant evening

On the evening of April 9, at the residence of her father, Mr Charles Matthews, Miss Grace Matthews, who is shortly to enter into the bonds of matrimony, was given a kitchen evening by Mrs P. Penley and lady friends.

Guests to the number of 35 were present, and all took part in a large number of games, which were introduced to make the evening a most pleasant one.

Vocal items were rendered by several of the guests.
