Jarod Waters wins SA Modified Sedan Championship in Murray Bridge

Mildura’s Jarod Waters put on a master class on Saturday night at the Murray Bridge Speedway as he dominated the 2023 South Australian Modified Sedan Championship.

After starting from the pole position for the 30-lap finale, Waters quickly jumped into the lead and was never headed as he led the field by over five seconds at one point, eventually winning by just over three seconds ahead of Tasmanian champion Jokobe Jetson and fellow Mildura resident Wade McCarthy.

“It’s about time I won a number one plate,” Mr Waters said on the podium.

“My dad won two of them and Cam has one, so I have been trying for a while now.

“I really love this track; we have won twice here already this season and what we learnt at those races really helped us tonight.”

Strong wind at Monarto cools down shooters but makes shooting more difficult

Thirteen shooters competed from 800 metres at the Deed Range in Monarto on Saturday.

It was a warm and sunny day, with the temperature kept reasonable due to a strong southerly blowing across the range from right to left.

While this made things more comfortable, it also made shooting much more difficult, with quick variations leaving many scratching their heads.

Ian Elston, however, managed to get a read of it well enough in his second round to post a 57.03, the best single score of the day, and enough to hand him top-off rifle in F-Open, as well as the F-Class handicap for the day, backing up last week’s win at 300 metres.

Murraylands cyclists prepare for Tour of Goolwa

Local riders will compete in the Tour of Goolwa this weekend.

The four-event, two-day tour is one of the biggest cycling race events in South Australia, with over 200 entries, consisting of 50 teams.

Along with Adelaide-based Bill Robinson, the local riders who will compete this weekend are Jason Woodard, Jai Fielke, Ryan Boyd, James Hand and Adam Bright.

Woodard, in open men’s division one, missed the event last year and will be keen to test his fitness over the four gruelling events.

Fielke and Boyd will be in the same division but will race for Van D’am Racing.

Fielke finished 12th overall last year and Boyd finished 9th, in different teams and divisions; they will hope to improve.

Hand finished fifth overall last year with a very strong fourth in the hill climb.

He will move up to division two this year with Van D’am Racing.

Robinson will return again this year, with Power On only entering one team in division three.

Bright will compete in the tour for the first time in the mixed team CACE in general division seven.

The Murraylands Cycling Club would like to wish its members all the best for the weekend.
