Aaron Zrim lands second Club Championship title

Local golfer Aaron Zrim scored a crushing 11 and 9 victory over last years winner Mark Bolton in a one sided play off final on Sunday.

It gave Zrim his second title after his 2022 triumph.

The monstrous hitting electrician flew out of the blocks to be three under the card and five holes up after just seven holes.

Slipping further behind though the ex club president showed plenty of fight by winning the 16th.

Bolton almost aced the par three 17th for a gimme birdie that saw the margin cut back to five again providing a glimmer of hope.

Zrim, however, won the 18th and enjoyed the lunch break at an imposing 6 up before then giving nothing away on the second round.

Hitting long and straight, he finally triumphed on the 9th hole, fittingly, with a birdie to claim the cup.

Jones outlasts Schmidt for B grade honours

The sometimes misunderstood Conythe Jones got full value from his unusual hitting style to snare the B grade cup after taking out Greg Schmidt six and four.

A one handicapper back in his heyday the chatty Jones fought off recent injuries to use his classy short game to quell the bigger hitting Schmidt.

Six up at halfway was narrowed back to just two as the big left hander made his move on the second round.

Refusing to panic however the little maestro settled to slip away again and claim victory on the 14th hole.

C grade play off

Twelve months ago larger than life club legend Graham Edwards celebrated beating Deane Pannell five and four in the C grade play off final.

Fast forward one year and these same two golfers were matched up again.

That's unusual enough but for the result this time to be five and four to Pannell is downright spooky.

That's what happened though as the jovial former horse trainer won the first hole.

He didn't look back from there chipping in a couple of times and having a few slices of luck when out in the scrub which never goes astray.

Edwards just couldn't get his putter to do the right thing for most of the round and was forced to shake hands and concede defeat to the better player on the day on the 14th green.

Third stage commences for the No. 2 District Rifle Association Championship

Favourable conditions produced some good scores at the Murray Bridge Rifle Club this past Saturday.

Six possibles were shot on the day, four in Target Rifle and two in F-Class.

After the first round of TR, Rob Paech (50.08), Jazz Irvine (50.07), Graham Hancock (50.06), and Greg Traeger (50.05) were in tight competition.

Centres separated Rob (49.05) and Graham (49.03) in second round and consequently overall, with Rob winning 99.13 to 99.09.

Scores were not quite so close in F-Standard, where a possible 60.03 from Richard McInnes gave him an early lead.

Gordon Harrison (56.02) and Eddie Concannon (58.04) made a valiant attempt to catch up in the second round.

It was not enough to catch Mr McInnes who won (118.06), climbing 4 points clear of Darryl Pink in the F-Standard overall standings.

In F-Open, John Cranwell also started strongly with a 60.07.

He followed this with 58.03 in the second round to finish on 118.10, two points clear of next best Adrian Conlon (116.10).

John also secured top spot in the standings by 4 points.

The vital final stage of competition will be held at the Mount Barker range in August.
