Speeder, seat-swapper among drivers detected by police

Police have been busy on the Murraylands' roads in recent days.

A 19-year-old woman was fined $2002 and lost seven demerit points after allegedly being caught speeding at Monarto South on Thursday night.

Police say the woman, a P-plater from Bridgewater, was doing 143 kilometres per hour on the South Eastern Freeway around 9.25pm.

Earlier on Thursday, a quick seat-swap with a passenger did not stop a Murray Bridge man from being reported for allegedly driving while disqualified.

Police spotted the 38-year-old's car on Swanport Road at 4.20pm on Thursday and pulled it over on Finch Road.

Officers say the man then swapped places with his passenger to try and avoid getting into trouble.

He will face court over the matter.

Police also detected three alleged drink drivers over the weekend:

  • A 22-year-old Davoren Park man who allegedly blew 0.125 on the Mallee Highway at Elwomple at 7.15pm on Saturday; he was allegedly stopped, but not reported, for speeding
  • A 29-year-old Murray Bridge woman who allegedly blew 0.186 on Swanport Road at 10pm on Saturday; she had also allegedly been driving unlicensed since her learner’s permit expired in 2011
  • A 27-year-old Tintinara man who allegedly blew 0.178 on the same road at 1.45pm on Sunday

Each driver lost his or her licence on the spot and had his or her vehicle impounded for 28 days.

Finally, on June 30, a 34-year-old Strathalbyn man was been arrested for allegedly driving while disqualified and under the influence of methamphetamine.

Police stopped him on Swale Street around 7.30pm.

He was granted bail, and his drug test sent to Forensic Science SA for analysis.
