A $100 million retirement community planned in Murray Bridge would include almost 230 homes, it has been revealed.

Developers Living Choice have filed plans with state authorities for the complex on Maurice Road.

As well as 229 residential units aimed at over-55s, the first three stages of construction would include:

  • A community centre
  • Bocce and pickleball courts
  • A creek running through the middle of the village

Company owners Ian Tregoning and Graham Hobbs – who previously redeveloped Murray Bridge’s Bridgeport Hotel – said when the development was announced that it would be pitched at “over-50s looking for a low-maintenance lifestyle”.

Living Choice will need to earn development approval from the Murray Bridge council before construction can begin.

The land on which the community will be built was part of Murray Bridge’s old racecourse up until 2019.

It was to have formed part of the Newbridge housing development after that, but developers Burke Urban sold it on to Living Choice last year.

If approved, the Living Choice development will be the sixth major development in Murray Bridge aimed at retirees, after the Murray Lands Retirement Village, Murray Heights and Owl Drive Lutheran villages, Waterford Estate and Warner Close.

Demand for retirement living has risen in the region in recent years as traditional housing has become harder and harder to find.


Clarification: Some of the wording in this story has been updated to better reflect that the development will not be a retirement village, in the traditional sense, but a residential community intended for people aged 55-plus.
