Murray Bridge High School hosts successful robotics scrimmage

Murray Bridge High School’s student robotics club is celebrating hosting a robotics scrimmage last month.

The event provided a dynamic platform for students to test their skills and strategies in a competitive, yet collaborative environment.

A new match field played a crucial role in elevating the quality of the event. 

The Bunyips, one of the Murray Bridge High School teams, was part of the winning alliance, achieving several high scores thanks to their impressive autonomous coding and driving skills.

In addition to the four teams from Murray Bridge High School, the scrimmage welcomed teams from community robotics groups, including the RoboRoos from Tonsley and the Pop Ups from north-eastern Adelaide.  

All participating students were commended for their dedication and hard work leading up to and during the event. 

A highlight was that one of the Murray Bridge High School teams served as the  captain of the winning alliance, an achievement facilitated by the availability of a match field for practice at school.

This allowed the teams to refine their driving and autonomous codes extensively. 

Fiona Rabone, a mentor to the Murray Bridge High School student robotics club, said club members looked forward to sharing more achievements throughout their journey in robotics.

The enthusiasm and engagement among club members and community visitors had significantly bolstered the passion for robotics in Murray Bridge, she said. 

The scrimmage showcased a new cutting-edge match field made possible  through a grant from the SA and NT Freemasons.

Last year the Freemasons made a separate $20,000 grant to the club, with the support of Murray Bridge United Lodge No. 44.

This funding aimed to inspire innovation and excellence in robotics coding and STEM-related skills among the next generation of students.
