Murray Bridge has the best-tasting tap water in SA
Our town has taken out the prize for the best drinking water in the state in 2022.
Murray Bridge has won the 2022 Ixom competition for the best tasting tap water in South Australia.
The town came out on top against Renmark and Loxton, with the winner being announced online on Wednesday afteroon.
Water Industries Operators Association managing director George Wall said Murray Bridge deserved of the win.
“The high standard of water delivered by these water suppliers made the judges’ task of selecting a winner a challenge, albeit a welcome one,” Mr Wall said.
“This is a great outcome considering the Murray has been in flood for an extended period of time.
“So congratulations to the operators at Murray Bridge, who have been doing a fantastic job treating the water from the Murray River to a standard that has been judged best in the state.”
When determining the winner, judges considered the four basic tastes of sweet, salty, bitter, sour and acidic.
Other factors taken into account included the mouthfeel, and whether the water was earthy, mouldy, chlorinous or fishy in flavour.
Aside from taste, odour, clarity and colour were also noted.
A “Water of Origin” contest between New South Wales and Queensland was won by Queensland, with Mackay Regional Council and Marian Water Treatment Plant.
The Australian champion for best-tasting tap water will be announced on November 12.
