Council elections are coming up – but who are those people on the ballot paper?

Murray Bridge News will help you get to know them at two upcoming events:

  • Meet the candidates night: 5-7pm Friday, October 14 at the Bridgeport Hotel, Murray Bridge
  • Mayoral forum: 7-9pm Friday, October 21 at Murray Bridge Town Hall

Each of the 17 candidates standing for election in the Murray Bridge district will be invited to the meet-the-candidates evening in the lounge at the Bridgeport Hotel.

The informal event will give locals an opportunity to meet all of the candidates – or those able to attend, anyway – in one place at one time.

Murray Bridge News managing editor Peri Strathearn – that’s me – will give a brief introduction to each of the candidates, then it will be up to you to mingle and chat.

The meet-the-candidates event will be free to attend, with no ticket required.

The mayoral forum will more closely resemble those hosted by Murray Bridge News in advance of this year’s state and federal elections.

Mayoral candidates Dawn Matthews and Wayne Thorley will introduce themselves and talk about what they would hope to achieve in the top job.

Members of the audience will then have an opportunity to ask questions, while I moderate the discussion.

The mayoral forum will also be free to attend, but attendees are invited to register their intention to attend via Eventbrite.

Murray Bridge News acknowledges the generosity of the Bridgeport Hotel and the Rural City of Murray Bridge in donating the venues for each of the events.

What about the Coorong?

Murray Bridge News is open to hosting, or co-hosting, an event for the three mayoral candidates in the Coorong district in late October.

Organisations interested in collaborating on such an event should contact me on 0419 827 124 or at peri@murraybridge.news.
