Jump into January at Sturt Reserve with the Murray River Splash festival

Murray Bridge's riverfront is buzzing with family activities every Thursday to Sunday between New Year's Eve and Australia Day.

The Murray River Splash festival is back.

Jump into January at Sturt Reserve with free family activities every Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday between New Year’s Eve and Australia Day.

A highlight this weekend will be Rhyme, Grind and Climb, a free outdoor hip-hop event featuring young local performers at Murray Bridge Skate Park.

The event will offer something for the whole family from 4-8pm this Saturday, January 16, including a rock climbing wall, laser tag, a live art demonstration, break dancers and scooter and skating workshops.

Other activities scheduled for this weekend include:

Arts in the park: Get creative making wire figures and fish hats with artist Tony Hannan. For children aged seven and up, or younger with parental assistance. From 10am-3.30pm this Thursday, January 14.
Clown workshop: Learn how to be a clown during a 45-minute workshop. From 10am and 12pm this Thursday, January 14.
Giant hampster ball: Go crazy walking, crawling or running inside a giant hampter ball, travelling 15 metres up, then back – a hugely popular activity. From 10am-4pm this Thursday-Sunday, plus 5-8pm on Saturday, January 16.
Kahuna water slide: Have fun and cool down on the big kahuna water slide. Best suited to children aged 2-12, but bigger kids can enjoy too. From 10am-4pm this Thursday-Sunday.
Laser tag: Compete against your friends in a battle of wits, reflexes and accuracy, then see which team and individual got the highest score at the end of the game. Suitable for children aged six and up. From 10am-4pm this Thursday-Sunday, plus 5-8pm on Saturday, January 16.
Lawn games: Enjoy mini golf, giant Jenga, giant Connect Four and more, all set up on the lawn. From 10am-4pm daily.
The Well – a story well told: Get your hands dirty while you learn about poo, where it goes once it's down the loo, and how SA Water keeps our sewers healthy and our waterways clean. From 10.30am-3pm on Thursday, January 14 and 10.30am-2pm on Friday, January 15.
Our river and environment: Join the council's biodiversity officer and learn about how the river, trees, plants and bugs work together to make an ecosystem though activity sheets and colouring in – and take a plant home. From 11-11.45am on Thursday, January 14.

More activities will follow on January 21-24 before the festival concludes with the Rural City of Murray Bridge’s Australia Day awards from 7am on Tuesday, January 26.

All activities will have a COVID safe plan in place, including COVID marshals, cleaning, food safety, monitoring attendance numbers and appropriate signage.
