Monarto Safari Park is among several Murraylands businesses to have scored a nomination in the 2021 South Australian Tourism Awards.

A public vote will decide the winners of two of the awards, which will be presented at a gala event in Adelaide on November 4.

Local finalists include the safari park, Coorong Wildside Tours at Meningie, Karoonda Silo Art and the Murray River, Lakes and Coorong Tourism Alliance.

Three lucky voters will win holiday experiences on Kangaroo Island, or in the Barossa Valley or Adelaide.

SA Tourism Commission chief executive Rodney Harrex said the awards ceremony at Adelaide Oval would be a celebration after a challenging year.

“As we work together as an industry to recover and rebuild, we’ve seen it all,” he said.

“In March we had a bumper festival season and total visitor expenditure hit almost the same levels as 2019, and we’ve seen the highs of seven months of record-breaking regional tourism rates to the lows of extended interstate lockdowns and the impacts of these on businesses.

“It’s testament to the strength and calibre of our state’s tourism operators that they’ve been able to adapt and continue to do great things.”
