Community groups in the Coorong can rejoice, with the council opening the first round of its community grants program for 2022-23.

Groups are encouraged to consider submitting applications for community projects or events that are inclusive, encourage wide participation, create a sense of community pride or stimulate economic growth.

Mayor Paul Simmons invited groups to apply to provide a financial and wellbeing boost for the Coorong.

“Our local community groups provide valuable social and economic benefits to our communities, and we want to continue to support their efforts,” Cr Simmons said.

“In the most recent round, the council’s community grants program funded new football goal nets, barbecue and cooking facilities upgrades, community gym improvements, and events funding for the annual Tintinara Lions’ wool show and auction.

“All of these activities provide direct benefit back our communities.”

Applications will close at 5pm on July 22.
